A rich history...

 

The Castle with its dungeon dating from the Middle-Age is remarkably preserved.  The XII century Abbey in which the painter Eugène Delacroix used to stay. The Vivier, forest where the writer Guy Maupassant, called Guy of Valmont in its beginnings, liked to stroll.

 

In 1791 Georges Cuvier was clerk secretary at the city hall of the Bec au Cauchois just after the Republic was proclaimed. There he was also revealed to the scientific community and became the imminent naturalist.
